Jake’s Resume on Overleaf — Open, Edit and Fix Common Errors
Open the original Jake’s resume template on Overleaf, or fill in your details here and send the generated LaTeX source when you are ready.
Open original template on Overleaf Edit without LaTeXOpen it in three steps
1. Open the Jake’s Resume template page on Overleaf using the link above. This is the upstream template listing, not an account or project operated by this website. Select Open as Template and sign in to your own Overleaf account if asked.
2. Work in your own project copy. Replace Jake Ryan, the sample contact details, schools and achievements with accurate information. Keep a copy of the original before changing commands so you can compare working source with your edits.
3. Compile with pdfLaTeX and inspect the resulting PDF. In the project’s compiler settings, select pdfLaTeX if necessary. If the project contains several TeX files, make sure the intended resume file is the main document. Recompile after changing content, and check page count and line breaks.
Send a resume you have already edited here
Return to the editor without loading another example if you want to keep your current draft. Choose Export resume → Open in Overleaf. A confirmation explains that your LaTeX source will be sent to a separate service. Cancel keeps the source here; confirm opens it in Overleaf with pdfLaTeX selected.
The transfer includes the generated source, embedded resume data and template attribution. It is not a link to a private draft stored on our server. Do not confirm if you do not want Overleaf to receive the document. Overleaf’s own account, storage and privacy terms apply.
Alternatively, download the LaTeX project ZIP and upload that project to Overleaf yourself. The ZIP contains main.tex, a JSON backup and the original MIT notices. Edits made in Overleaf do not automatically update the draft in this browser; keep a JSON backup before taking the document elsewhere.
Choose the editor that fits your next change
Use this website’s form editor when you want to edit fields, reorder entries, switch supported fonts or paper size, and compile a PDF without writing LaTeX. Basic editing and exports need no account and run in your browser.
Use Overleaf when you want to work directly with LaTeX commands, customize the source beyond the form controls, or collaborate using Overleaf’s own features. You will be using a separate online service. This website is independent and is not affiliated with Jake Gutierrez or Overleaf.
Fix common compile errors
Start with the first error in the log. Later messages can be consequences of the same problem.
Missing packages or a missing glyphtounicode file
Check the exact file named in the error. A fresh project should contain the whole exported source. On a local TeX installation, install the corresponding TeX package through your distribution. In Overleaf, check the selected TeX Live version and the spelling of any packages you added. glyphtounicode is an input file, not a package to add with usepackage.
Undefined control sequence or a brace-related error
If the error points at pdfgentounicode, check that the compiler is pdfLaTeX. For an entry macro, compare its name and braces with a working entry. A literal &, % or _ in hand-edited text needs escaping; a percent sign can otherwise hide the rest of its line. Restore the last working version and apply one change at a time.
Font differences, missing letters or unexpected line breaks
Use the same selected font package and compiler in each project. Computer Modern is the default; Word and Google Docs are separate conversions. A font substitution or unsupported character can change output. Check the PDF, not just the source editor, and avoid switching engines without adapting the preamble.
Read the font guideContent runs onto a second page
Confirm Letter versus A4, then shorten repeated wording and remove low-value bullets. Inspect section gaps and long contact links. The form editor has a compact spacing option, but it cannot guarantee a single page for arbitrary content. Keep the text readable and review every page after changing fonts or spacing.
